Network Engineer (Ref No.3846/MCAL) Sep 08Position Overview:
This position assists in the maintenance of our global network, ensuring stability and integrity of all wide and local area networks as directed by more experienced team members and management locally and in the US. Typical tasks include planning, designing, developing and monitoring the network architecture to achieve optimal uptime and efficiency of technical resources. This position interfaces with IT peers within the global OpCo IT organizations with some interaction with external suppliers/vendors to successfully drive projects to completion.
Job Functions:
Works with network planning team to plan and execute network infrastructure related projects as dictated by business requirements.
Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Monitor and analyze WAN and LAN stability and provide performance statistics and reports.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation.
Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations and other network appliances.
Tracks vendor progress on delivery of orders requests.
Availability and willingness to respond to the requirements of a global 24x7 organization.
Job Requirements:
Technical knowledge of modern WAN and LAN technologies; i.e. MPLS, frame relay, MLPPP, MLFR, IPsec, GRE, DMVPN, routing, switching, Ethernet, modems, cabling, firewalls, IP telephony, IP video conferencing, implementing QoS, etc.
Troubleshooting skills.
Advanced level understanding of Cisco switching, routing, firewall, and telephony hardware and software.
Advanced knowledge of industry standard networking terms and protocols; i.e. DNS, DHCP, LDAP, MLPPP, MLFR, IPsec, ISAKMP, etc.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft networking technologies and directory services (Active Directory) technologies.
Industry certifications desirable; Microsoft MCSE, Cisco CCNP, CCDA, etc.
3 +- 5 years of relevant network engineering experience required.
Preferred Attributes:
Proficiency with packet capture and analysis software
Knowledge of scripting languages and basic Linux and UNIX utilities and shells, VI, Grep, etc.
Willingness/ability to occasionally travel to provide technical support to remote offices.
Maintain excellent working relationships with peers in global OpCo IT organizations.
Excellent written, verbal, and organization skills in Chinese and English.
